This is a story from a dear friend that she sent me called “My Dad’s Dog” and I wanted to share it with you. It is a neat thought about the bonding between us humans and our beloved pets:
”I went over to my parent’s today to check on them and help my mom with a few things. I got more info on the new dog and knew you would appreciate this.
Here’s the story: This little dog (red heeler I think it is called) was apparently abandoned by its owner in Marked Tree a few weeks ago. She was roaming the streets and a lady my mom knows was trying to “catch” her before they dog pound came as they knew that was going to be the next step. The dog was apparently not treated well by the former owner and would not allow anyone close enough to catch her. So after several weeks on the street, the dog pound picked her up and a man that my dad knows talked him into taking her before euthanasia was the outcome.
They brought her to him in a cage growling upon arrival and my Dad took her on a trial basis. He made her a little bed in his barn and put the cage in it about 2 weeks ago. Then he “started working with her”, with the cage open and just “dog whispering” as he does (it’s magic!!) So he has been doing whatever it is he does to make dogs and horses like him and today, SHE WAS IN THE HOUSE WAITING FOR ME TO PET HER AS MUCH AS I WOULD. She follows him every step of the day to and from the barn and house and anywhere else. No longer afraid and not barking at me or anybody else.
An adorable dog and the best thing that could have happened to my Dad right now. I was totally amazed and am so thankful for this.
I knew you would appreciate this story and just had to share it with you.”
