Jonesboro’s Arkansas State University announces progress in its search for a new mascot. For 76 years, the Indians have been the mascot. I remember as a child that after an ASU touchdown, the Indian would ride a horse around the track. But no more, since “Indian” is a politically incorrect term. I understand that. So the NCAA is forcing a name change. ASU began with 1500 alternative mascot names and finally hired a man from Phoenix Design Works; with his help, they have narrowed those 1500 down to three…….Red Wolves, Ridge Riders, and an Express Train concept. Another committee meeting is scheduled for the end of January. Wonder what they’ll come up with! mkm
