Jonesboro Pets Welcome New Friend

A Jonesboro man’s Boykin Spaniel companion dog died in late January and at first he decided he wouldn’t get another dog, feeling his grief at the loss. Atom II was his name. He had been by my husband John’s side for eleven years and was the successor to Atom, who lived to be nearly seventeen. Atom was a dog with a great love for my husband and no other, hunting with John alone but very unfriendly to anyone else. Atom II was just the opposite, loving and friendly to everyone but bonded to my husband as his number one. When the impact of Atom II’s death eased just a little, we decided to call the kennel in Leesburg, NC, to see about the availability of a male as we trusted he would have the sweet disposition of Atom II. Pat Warr remembered us from eleven years ago and said she had a twelve week old male she would sell, but that she did not want to ship him. I decided to fly to Columbia and she said she would meet me at the airport. Sam, the puppy’s name, and I were instant friends and it was an easy trip back on the plane with him. I held him until we boarded the plane and he slept in his crate at my feet all the way to Memphis. There is such a bond among dog lovers and it was apparent last night when good friends dropped by with a basket of toys for him. Needless to say, he is a spoiled pup already. He has made friends with our daughter’s Zack and Zoe, and our Newfie Shelley and Golden Sarah reside happily with him, a surprisingly peaceful household considering that we have five dogs in the house. After fifty-one years of marriage I know how to get my husband to appreciate me - present him with a precious puppy! Happy Valentine’s Day. mlm
