Jonesboro fans have known that Dickey Nutt had the team’s best interest in his heart. The Nutt family has been a credit to this community in the years they have made their home here, and I hope we will not lose them from this city. Dickey has shown his coaching ability and has given the young people with whom he has worked encouragement not only on the court but more importantly in life’s lessons. He has been straight with them, and I have heard him speak publicly on several occasions and admire him for his motivational ability. He and Kathy have given their children strength and what better legacy could you give than a good name. This episode in ASU athletic politics will be viewed as a coach who was asked to leave before his season was over, as many were asking today the “whys” of this move by administration, but to Coach Nutt and his family and to all who love and respect them this will be remembered as a gentleman who resigned under pressure trying to give to the team and fans a smooth transition, a mark of true character, showing in the press conference a glimmer of his peaceful spirit. Going on to watch his son Lucas play high school basketball, and what a game Lucas played, Dickie once more demonstrated his love and support of family. The Nutts have shown us that one can react in sorrow and grief at a situation but can do so without bitterness and hatred. They know the importance of forgiveness, letting go, and getting on with their lives. Let’s carry that as a lesson learned! mlm
