Jonesboro residents have never been timid about holding back with opinions and the latest “have you heard”. The internet has its Snopes.com to check out the information sent out about viruses, etc. But where is the check for citizens just sitting around the coffee tables sounding as if they know the inside, whether it’s a company going out of business, something “heard” about someone’s marriage and/or family, knowledge about the candidates for public office, the latest house sale with the price (?), the list goes on and on. Several years ago my husband received a call at Christmas that told him the latest news, that Indian Mall had been sold to St Bernards. And history certainly proved that not to be true! Let’s be the model community that we can be and check out our facts before repeating things we hear, let’s not be like the old game of GOSSIP when “facts” are added to the original line. mlm
