In Jonesboro as in other places, people can be overwhelmed when looking online at properties on the market. One can easily spend day after day looking at the wrong properties. Why in the world would the buying or selling public spend time checking out sometimes stale information when a Realtor representing you will have access to the most current changes and access to the right properties. Information is only as good as its source. A Realtor is like a doctor of real estate, giving expert information and expert interpretation and sorting out the faulty or misleading. The Realtor is here to support and educate the customers who wish to be represented. People seem to want to begin their search unimpeded but generally wish to work with someone they can trust when it’s time to plunk down a substantial sum of cash. The Marcom Team has five experienced agents to serve you 24/7. mlm

Her previous season best was 13-4 1/2 which she set in early April. Stripling said the clearance is a big confidence boost with the SEC Championships in May at Auburn. “It feels awesome”, Katie commented. “I didn’t know it was a school record until I cleared it. Everything went good. I gave it a chance, and it worked out for me. I decided I was going to have fun (at the meet), and that’s what I did. It gives me confidence to jump high.” Katie is the daughter of Dr. Mark and Peggy Stripling. CONGRATULATIONS KATIE! MLM

The Marcom Team added two new members in February, which has been a tremendous plus for us, but it has been alot of work for me! Since I do most of the computer work for our Team, I’ve been adjusting our websites and ads to include our new team members. One is a seasoned Realtor but the other is newly licensed, and as we all know, you learn what you need to in school to pass the test, but then you have to learn how to use the computer to find your clients the homes they want! And I’ve been the teacher for our newest Realtor. It has been delightful having two new team members to work with my parents and me. We’ve known them a long time and they’ve been friends for years, so the trust is there among us. Take “The Marcom Team Advantage — 5 Licensed Realtors to Serve You Better, 24/7.” The addition of Brenda Hester and Dixie Regenold to our team has made Real Estate FUN again, even in a declining market. Things are looking up in Jonesboro, Arkansas. We’re getting busier! (mary kathryn)

Jonesboro friends received an invitation to attend the showing of Jan Troutt’s art called “Layers”, her master of arts thesis exhibition at ASU in the Fine Arts Center Gallery. It opens today, May 5 and will continue through May 20. Jan’s exhibition contains a mixed-media series of paintings. Jan uses experiences in life as “Layers” and says this showing coincides with the 40th anniversary of the tornado which hit Jonesboro and was a life changing event for her as her family’s house was destroyed but they were all spared. The gallery hours are 10-5 Monday through Friday.

In Jonesboro, it is always interesting to picture yourself as a newcomer and see the city as a visitor would look at it. Yesterday I had that opportunity as I was working with a client of my daughter’s (she was out of towm) and we looked at houses from several miles past Valley View off 49S to Sage Meadows to Paragould Road. The houses, without exception, were immaculate and beautifully decorated. It was a difficult decision to make and finally it was narrowed down to location. Isn’t that what it’s all about anyway? mlm

A Jonesboro family found that the tick infestation this spring is very real. Little Maltese Zach came in from playing outside last week and we found a total of six ticks on him. Later we found one on the Maltipoo Zoe and were really freaked out when Mary Kathryn found one on her clothes. I was at Wal-Mart at eleven that night purchasing tick shampoo and spray as we were unprepared. The small dogs loved a bath when their schedule said it was time to sleep and were very frisky and happy with the attention. Since then my friend Laura told me her husband had found three on himself after being in the yard. Lyme disease is very dangerous and can even affect the dogs so please be careful. Mary Kathryn had outdoor repellent on and that didn’t deter the tick. We use the once a month treatment on the little dogs and it was administered the afternoon before finding the ticks, so I suppose it just made them move from the skin enough to be seen. Do be aware and check yourselves and your animals. mlm

Today at Jonesboro Rotary Club the scholarships were presented to the student selected at each of the four schools which have Interact Clubs — Jonesboro, Nettleton, Valley View, & Westside. The amount has been raised to $3,000 which must be a welcome gift to parents. I was so impressed to see such outstanding young people devoted to their community in volunteering and making Jonesboro an even better place to live. It was amazing to me to see how much time is spent outside of school in worthwhile activities while keeping a great grade point average. The money comes from the Rotary Sportshow which is held in February each year and the young people see the fruits of their time in helping with it when they realize the money for the scholarships comes from that project. mlm

This Jonesboro Realtor has been in a quandary this week because of having to advise a seller to take a lower offer for their house than they wished. In this market it is important to hold onto a strong qualified buyer and that is what we decided to do. We figured the payments that would be made until it possibly closed at a later date and decided to be safe, to take a solid contract and cut the losses. There are so many variances to ponder, in renting, which is an alternative but then you have to take into consideration the amount of updating the house will need in a year or two, the age of the appliances, etc. It might be more prudent to take the loss at this time, particularly for those families who have moved to other areas. After much discussion, it has to be up to the owner to make the call for none of us can forecast the future. It’s up for grabs as much as the presidential race seems to be! mlm

It was a cloudy afternoon with some light rain, a perfect day for relaxing with beautiful music. The musicians must have looked out at the audience with disappointment because it was very poorly attended. Folks, we have an opportunity not many communities have in the productions brought to the Fowler Center. Let’s take advantage of this! Our young people will grow up without knowing the beauty of classical music if they are not introduced to it. It may not “take” for them, but let’s at least give them the chance to decide on their own if it is enjoyable to them. I saw one father with his teenage daughter and they had obviously had such a good time. The best of any kind of music is enticing, and we all probably enjoy one more than the other, but one kind “speaks” to our soul…….and it just might be classical. mlm
